Overview
The Phongun Razi Trekking Peak expedition is a legendary journey into the far north of Myanmar’s Kachin State, specifically within the pristine Putao region. This 11-day itinerary is meticulously designed for adventure seekers who yearn to touch the snow-capped foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. Standing at an impressive altitude of 3,635 meters (11,926 feet), Phongun Razi offers a perfect introduction to mountaineering in Myanmar, providing a manageable yet challenging ascent that does not require advanced technical climbing skills, though physical stamina is paramount.
Your journey begins in the isolated town of Putao, a gateway accessible only by air, surrounded by jagged peaks and emerald forests. From here, you will venture deep into the Hkakabo Razi National Park buffer zone. The trail winds through dense, sub-tropical evergreen rainforests where the biodiversity is staggering—rhododendrons, rare orchids, and exotic bird species accompany every step. As you ascend, the landscape transforms from humid jungles into temperate mossy forests, and finally into the sub-alpine zone where snow often blankets the trail leading to the summit.
More than just a climb, this trek is a deep dive into the cultural heart of the mountains. You will pass through the "Last Village" of Ziadum, inhabited by the friendly Rawang and Lisu ethnic groups, offering a glimpse into a way of life that has remained unchanged for centuries. The view from the summit is unparalleled, offering a 360-degree panorama of the snow-clad peaks of the Himalayas bordering India and China. This is not just a tour; it is a true wilderness expedition into one of the most remote corners of the world.

Tour Plan
Upon arrival to Putao airport you will be welcomed by Discovery DMC local guide and transferred to your hotel / guest house in Putao. After check-in and lunch we take a walk around the town to get a feel of the local life and meet the friendly people. Putao previously known as Fort Hertz by its colonial name was the furthest out post of the British Burma. A number of expeditions and surveys trips were conducted by the British and international explorers to record the unique flora and fauna of the region, however large parts remain unexplored. Like many other parts of Burma access to the far north was restricted for decades. Putao remains a sleepy and isolated town situated in a flat valley surrounded by forests and has only seasonal overland access from Myitkyina.
Meals included: Lunch & dinner
Overnight stay: Dinner and overnight stay in Putao in a hotel or guest house.
