Overview

Tucked away in remote mountain valley, surrounded by dense jungle and some of the last wildernesses of SE Asia is Putao aka Fort Hertz the most remote outpost of the former British Burma. This journey will give you a glimpse of culture and nature of Myanmar Himalaya in comfort. Travel expert guide from tribal community, meet the locals and enjoy leisurely walks and excursions. Cycling is also available for those who are interested in exploring the region by bicycle.

Highlights

Putao town situates in fertile and flat valley at 457masl nestled by mountains and dense forests. It was built in 1914-15 and named as Fort Hertz. Putao has the northern most airport in Myanmar and is base for trekkers heading to the uninhabited wildernesses and snow-capped mountains bordering China and India. Local population consists of Lisu, Rawang and Jingphaw who are mostly Christian and have written language created by missionaries. 
Kaungmulone – Site of a famous pagoda believed to be built by great King, Thiri Dhamma Thawka.
Machanbaw – Village located across Malikha River, connected by beautiful suspension bridge.
Mulashidi – Meaning in Lisu “the village stands in the thatch field along Mula River”. Beautifully set up Lisu village 14km south of Putao connected by 159 meters long suspension bridge with scenic remote mountains backdrop.

Your equipment:
All travel luggage should be divided between a backpack worn by the travelers and a second sealed bag with padlock, transported by the logistics team on site (porters and/or vehicles).

Basic equipment:
- Breathable underwear (fast drying).
- A kind Polartec fleece jacket (if possible windbreaker) or Wind Pro (excellent weight / insulation).
- A waterproof and breathable jacket (Gore-Tex) in the bottom of the bag (only for the months of November to March).
- The pants trek.
- A cap or hat.
- Sun glasses (minimum index 3 and 4 for high mountain).
- A rain cape.
- A water bottle (or water bottle pocket, pipette).

Sleeping:
• From December to late March: good sleeping bag 0 ° C / - 5 ° C.
• In March, April and November: sleeping bag comfort temperature +10 ° C.
• From May to October: silk sleeping bag (a cloth down in fleece is sufficient).
- We provide mattresses and blankets on hand to light the night with the locals.

What to pack:
- A backpack with wide straps and an adjustable anatomical frame, with a capacity of 20-30 liters for your business day.
Example Millet: The Hiker 38.
- A travel bag 80 to 100 liters, flexible. Depending on weather, luggage is transported by the day or by bike carriers. It is recommended, if you have the choice to carry a travel bag with shoulder strap for easy work if we use carriers rather than motorcycles, but do not make the acquisition purpose for this trip .

- Change of clothes.
- A pair of spare laces.
- A swimsuit to Halong Bay.
- A pair of sneakers or sandals to walk in the water.
- A toilet bag and a towel.

Welcome to Putao! Meet your guide at the airport with your name sign and after immigration formalities short transfer to your lodge. Freshen up and get ready for an introductory guided walk around the town to get a feel of Putao. Putao was first built 100yrs ago and named as Fort Hertz. It was the northern most terminus of the British Burma and where travel through jungle and along river valleys was a long and treacherous journey. Botanists and taxonomists basing themselves in Fort Hertz did extensive study on plants and wildlife and found many new species here.
