Overview

Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to the far north of Myanmar, where the eastern edge of the mighty Himalayas meets the dense, subtropical jungles of the Kachin State. The Phon Gun Razi Peak Expedition (3,635m) — often part of the greater Phangran Razi range reaching up to 4,330m — is not just a trek; it is a profound immersion into one of the world's last untouched wildernesses.

Starting from the remote outpost of Putao, accessible only by air, this 11-day odyssey takes you far beyond the reach of modern civilization. You will traverse deep river valleys, cross suspension bridges over crystal-clear glacial waters, and climb through diverse ecological zones—from bamboo forests and temperate rainforests to the alpine meadows and snow-covered ridges of the high peaks.

This expedition is designed for the true adventurer who seeks solitude and raw natural beauty. You will visit Ziadum, the "last village" of the North, inhabited by the hospitable Rawan and Lisu ethnic groups, whose culture remains deeply tied to the mountains. As you ascend toward the summit of Phon Gun Razi, the air thins and the landscape transforms into a dramatic world of granite and snow, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks bordering India and China. This is more than a climb; it is a test of spirit and a celebration of nature in its most primal state.

Tour Plan

Expand All

Upon arrival to Putao airport you will be welcomed by Golden Trekking Tours DMC local guide and transferred to your hotel / guest house in Putao. After check-in and lunch we take a walk around the town to get a feel of the local life and meet the friendly people. Putao previously known as Fort Hertz by its colonial name was the furthest out post of the British Burma. A number of expeditions and surveys trips were conducted by the British and international explorers to record the unique flora and fauna of the region, however large parts remain unexplored. Like many other parts of Burma access to the far north was restricted for decades. Putao remains a sleepy and isolated town situated in a flat valley surrounded by forests and has only seasonal overland access from Myitkyina.

Meals included: Lunch & dinner

Overnight stay: Dinner and overnight stay in Putao in a hotel or guest house.
